Local Information

Tullycross Cottage is on the outskirts of Croftamie, two miles south of the pretty village of Drymen, just inside the southern boundary of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. You can drive to Loch Lomond in less than ten minutes. Walk to the Wayfarer's Pub/Restaurant in Croftamie, which serves meals all day.

This is Rob Roy Country, packed with vibrant history, beautiful landscapes and brilliant wildlife. Come and enjoy stunning lochs and rolling hills, famous golf courses and excellent excellent walks. Good location for exploring The Trossachs, Glasgow, Stirling, Perth and Edinburgh too.

Favourite things
Visit the renovated Stirling Castle, voted the best castle in Scotland! The Hill House (Charles Rennie Mackintosh's gem in nearby Helensburgh) is popular, A day out in Edinburgh is well worth while. Try Perth and Scone Palace.

Young families love Blair Drummond Safari Park and Briarlands Farm. Older children enjoy Go Ape at Aberfoyle and Xscape at Braehead in Glasgow. Train lovers can take the Jacobite Train to Mallaig from Helensburgh.
Lochs and Islands Enjoy Loch Lomond by steamer, rowing boat, kayak, or by taking the post boat to Inchmurrin Island for lunch. Make a short crossing from Balmaha to Inchcailloch Island Nature Reserve. Walk the paths around the loch, climb the surrounding hills, and learn about the history and wildlife in the National Park.

Birdwatchers' paradise. Ospreys nest locally - watch them fishing in the lochs. There are dippers, mergansers, goosanders and even golden eagles to look out for, plus tens of thousands of geese around all winter.

There are lots of other beautiful lochs and hills to explore, including Loch Katrine, and all of The Trosssachs. Some of the west coast islands, such as Bute and Arran, can be visited in a day. Drive up Glen Coe, or along the Fife coast.

Walking and Cycling
There are loads of good local walks, both easy and challenging. On the day you arrive stretch your legs on the short climb to the top of the Duncryne (know locally as The Dumpling) - the view is breathtaking. Tullycross Cottage is on National Cycle Route 7. The West Highland Way passes less than a mile from the house and the Rob Roy Way starts at Drymen. You can climb Ben Lomond, Ben Ledi, The Cobbler and other high hills, or just stroll in the woods or along a lochside. Rent a bike, do a day's pony trekking, the choice is endless. Golf and Fishing
Golfers will find several interesting and demanding golf courses within ten miles, with Buchanan Castle and Strathendrick both just five minutes away. There is fishing of all kinds, too, on lochs and rivers. You can watch the salmon leaping on the Endrick Water.

This part of Scotland abounds with glorious gardens, large and small. Come in May or early June to see the stunning blaze of azaleas and rhododendrons at Benmore, Ardkinglas, Crarae and many other amazing gardens.

Visit our very local Glengoyne Distillery to learn how this unique single highland malt whisky is produced. The distillery is just a few minutes' drive away and is open all year round for tours (every hour on the hour).

Tullycross Cottage is only 16 miles north of the centre of Glasgow, renowned for its art and culture ... and wonderful shopping. Visit the Burrell Collection, Kelvingrove Museum, the Necropolis, good theatres .. such a lot to see and do.

Visit Edinburgh, Scotland's stunning capital city. Just one and a half hour's drive away, makes it great for a day out. Use the Park and Ride at Edinburgh Airport. Hop on and off the open-top bus to get a bird's eye view of the city. See the famous castle and Royal Mile, walk along Princes Street, visit the pandas at the Zoo. or enjoy a day at the Festival.
